The cationic portion of N-ethyl-N-methylpiperidine bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide salt is the piperidine ring, which belongs to a six-membered cyclic structure and has an ethyl and a methyl group attached to the nitrogen atom. This structure gives it high chemical stability and low viscosity. The TFSI anion is a bulky fluorine-containing anion with excellent electrochemical stability and low pairing energy. The presence of TFSI allows it to exhibit a low melting point and good conductivity, while being non-volatile, reducing its environmental impact. It can be used as battery electrolytes, supercapacitors, green solvents and lubricants and coatings.
What Are Solid Electrolytes and Why Do They Matter? Solid electrolytes are the defining component of solid-state batteries, replacing the liquid or gel electrolytes found in conventional lithium-ion cells. In a tradition...
