1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazole chloride salt (EMIM Cl) is a common anionic ionic liquid with good solubility and thermal stability. Its cation is 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazole (EMIM) is a derivative of imidazole with two alkyl substituents (ethyl and methyl), giving it good solubility in solvents. The anion is chloride (Cl-), which is simple and stable. It has a melting point of 84°C ± 2 and a density of d 1.1112 (80°C), which makes it suitable for a number of high-temperature reactions.EMIM Cl has good solubility in water and in many organic solvents, making it suitable for use in different chemical reactions and separation processes. Due to its low volatility and high solubility, EMIM Cl is widely used as a green solvent, reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It has a conductivity of 30mS/cm and is commonly used as an electrolyte in electrochemical devices such as supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries.
Benzyl chloride announces itself before you ever see the liquid: the vapor carries a pungent, aromatic odor and acts as a powerful tear-inducing irritant at very low airborne levels. That is only the first warning a ben...
