An academic event on the development of the ionic liquid industry was held on August 17.

On August 17, an academic event on the development of the ionic liquid industry was held at Yangkou Port in Rudong County, Nantong City, with the support from the Rudong County government. The conference invited together university professors and industry representatives to discuss topics such as the current status and future prospects of the ionic liquid industry against the backdrop of China’s new material development.

Research findings related to ionic liquids were also shared during the event, including presentations on “Ionic Liquids and Environmental Functional Materials Technology”, “Potential Applications of Ionic Liquids in Solid-State Electrolytes”, “Applications of Ionic Liquids in Aluminum Electrolysis”, and “Ionic Liquids and MOF Materials”.

At the academic event, Zhejiang Lande, the leading ionic liquid manufacturer in China, announced that construction of its new plant in Yangkou Port, Rudong County, is about to commence.

Rudong County’s strong commitment to and support for the new materials industry is the key reason why Lande chose to build its new plant here. Currently, Rudong is home to more than 400 enterprises engaged in new materials, with an annual output value exceeding 70 billion yuan. Yangkou Port, as the core hub of Rudong’s new materials layout, accounts for 60% of the county’s total new materials output. Within this area, several complete industrial clusters have taken shape, including a water treatment agent chain from acrylonitrile to polyacrylamide, a polyester chain from PX to PET, and a nylon chain from cyclohexanone to nylon-6. The Lande project has been recognized by the Rudong County government as an important strategic step in consolidating the region’s competitive advantage in new materials.

The ionic liquid project is being developed by Lande (Jiangsu) New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 600 million yuan. Upon completion, it will have an annual capacity of 29,800 tons of ionic liquids, along with 150 tons of lithium chloride and 100 tons of lithium bromide as by-products. Once the plant reaches full production, it is expected to generate taxable annual sales of 1.05 billion yuan.

The new plant is also expected to help local producers of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber and lithium battery separators reduce their reliance on dichloromethane, cutting pollution and advancing greener production processes.
